Why Study Chinese in China?

Learning Chinese in China is the fastest and most effective way to build real language skills. It’s undeniable, nothing beats it.

You’re not just studying in a classroom, you’re surrounded by the language every day. That constant exposure makes a huge difference.

Alongside daily life, you’ll follow a structured program designed to develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Most students reach HSK 4 level within a year with consistent practice and total immersion, into the language and also the culture.

  • Suitable for complete beginners or those with some basic Chinese
  • A full one-year program, designed for steady progress
  • Open to international applicants
  • Structured, step-by-step learning focused on real communication
  • One of the most affordable ways to study abroad
  • A full year abroad at a fraction of the typical cost

You’ll study at one of two universities in China, each offering a different experience depending on your preferences. Read on to discover which is the right fit and where your adventure begins.

Chongqing

You’d struggle to find a more immersive environment for learning Chinese than Chongqing. As one of China’s largest cities, it provides a fast-paced setting to supercharge your Mandarin skills.

You’ll study at Chongqing Vocational University of Electronic Information Engineering, alongside other international students, following a structured program designed to build your language fast.

Your learning is split between classroom study and real-life use. Lessons focus on all aspects of the language, giving you a solid foundation, while daily life helps reinforce what you’ve learned.

  • Structured lessons with clear progression
  • Regular speaking practice and interaction
  • Daily opportunities to use Chinese in real situations
  • A strong immersion environment that supports faster progress

Chongqing is best suited to students who want to dive into a rich cultural experience and can adapt quickly.

It may be a better fit for those with some existing understanding of Chinese, while complete beginners may find the option below a more gradual introduction.

Dongying

Dongying provides a calm and steady setting for learning Chinese, ideal for those who want to take things step by step.

Based in Shandong Province, the city offers a slower pace of life, making it easier to settle in, stay focused, and build confidence over time.

You’ll study at Dongying Vocational Institute, joining a small international cohort and following a clear, guided learning path. Teaching is practical and supportive, helping you develop your ability to communicate from day one without feeling overwhelmed.

  • A quieter city that’s easier to navigate and adjust to
  • A supportive atmosphere that encourages steady progress
  • More space to practise and reflect outside the classroom
  • A comfortable introduction to living in China

Rather than rushing, the program encourages consistency. You’ll have time to absorb new language, revisit what you’ve learned, and gradually become more comfortable using Chinese everyday.

Dongying is a strong option for those starting Chinese from scratch or anyone who prefers a more gradual, less intense introduction before moving on to a bigger city.
